Long before borders and names, the peoples of Europe lived in conversation with the forest. It sheltered them, fed them, frightened them — a vast, breathing world of spirits and unseen presences. In its depths, myths were born: gods turning into trees, voices whispering through roots and mist. The forest was not a backdrop but a living being, older than memory.

From this shared ancestry emerged the slavic figure of Leshy — guardian of the woods, trickster and protector, shifting between human, animal, and shadow. More than a figure of folklore, he is the pulse of the forest itself: unpredictable, dangerous, and generous.

Today, our lives unfold through digital architectures, guided by light and data. And yet the forest persists — as memory, as longing, as a threshold to another way of seeing. To walk among trees now is to listen differently, to remember that we are surrounded.

Leshy gathers Slavic and French artists in dialogue across myth and ecology, intimacy and technology — tracing how ancient stories still move through us, and how the forest continues to speak in a world of networks and machines.

About Emergency Space

Emergency — Curatorial Group and an independent exhibition space currently opening in Paris, near Hôtel de Ville.

We focus on group and solo exhibition projects, as well as on supporting emerging art. The main emphasis of our space is on cutting-edge and experimental art within an international context.

We are located in a building where, in 1849, the first emergency medical service in Paris — Assistance Publique — was founded to respond to urgent calls from citizens. During the Paris Commune in 1871, the building survived a fire and continued saving lives. The name Emergency reflects a spirit of urgency and readiness to act without delay — just like our commitment to showcasing young and experimental art.

The exhibition space was founded by a curatorial group consisting of artists and curators Ivan Volkov,  Misha Gudwin, Iuliia Skromnaya and collector Dmitry Malyshev.
