2020–2022 · KATYA QUEL
Erratum Gallery was founded in 2012 in Berlin by three artists, James Verhille, Fiona Valentine Thomann, and Damien Sayer. Established as an artist-run, non-profit organization, Erratum was created to support emerging artists and foster connections between younger practitioners and more established artists.
From its beginning, Erratum developed as a platform for experimental and collaborative practices, presenting multimedia installations, exhibitions, performances, and artist-led projects. Over the following years, the gallery became known for its independent approach to exhibition-making and its commitment to creating spaces for artistic exchange outside conventional institutional structures.
2017–2020
Erratum was run by Dean Annunziata, Franck Rausch, Raphaël-Bachir Osman, and Linda Franken. The new team continued to develop Erratum as a non-commercial platform for artistic collaboration, supporting young artists and artist-to-artist practices while organizing exhibitions, gatherings, discussions, and events addressing the role of art in contemporary society.
2020–2022 · KATYA QUEL
In 2020, artist and curator Katya Quel took over the leadership of Erratum. Under her direction, the project developed a more explicitly curatorial approach, expanding its programme around international artistic practices, diversity, technology, digital culture, sustainability, alternative modes of living, and new forms of coexistence.
During this period, Erratum continued to operate as an independent, non-commercial space while developing exhibitions and collaborative projects with artists from different cultural and geographic backgrounds. The programme placed particular emphasis on female artists, underrepresented minorities, independent artistic practices, and voices operating outside established institutional networks.
2022 · CURATORIAL NOMAD
After ten years as a physical space in Berlin, Erratum closed its permanent location and evolved into a nomadic curatorial project.
This transition marked a shift from a fixed exhibition space toward a mobile practice working across different locations, contexts, and collaborations. Mobility became not only a logistical condition but a curatorial method, allowing projects to respond to specific places, communities, and artistic networks.
Since 2022, Erratum has developed projects beyond its former Berlin location, continuing its programme through exhibitions, collaborations, research, and artistic interventions.
2026 · INTERNATIONAL CURATORIAL PRACTICE
Today, Erratum operates as an international curatorial platform led by Katya Quel, working across independent spaces, institutions, and temporary sites.
The project focuses on large-scale group exhibitions, international collaboration, temporary communities, experimental exhibition formats, and the relationship between mobility and cultural production.
Recent projects include Jackpot, a large-scale group exhibition presented in Marseille during Art-o-rama in 2026, bringing together approximately 35 artists around questions of consumer culture, capitalism, success, and the art world.
Erratum continues to develop as a flexible curatorial practice connecting independent artistic production with institutional, geographic, and social contexts.
