IMPOSSIBLE THINGS BEFORE BREAKFAST
During the lockdown, our reality changed dramatically. Daily routines went awry as home office and remote education transformed our activities. We woke late, setting alarms five minutes before obligatory Zoom meetings. What thoughts and ideas come into our heads the moment we wake? Have our discussions become continuations of dreams? Has our imagination become more active? Is virtual reality drawing closer? Are we ready to replace our personas with imaginary avatars?
Katya Quel Elizarova recreates an installation of magical 3D characters staring at each other through the surfaces of porcelain plates. Vinyl records, sawn into ninja boomerangs, circle around. Each plate contains a mirror engraved with an impossible idea: drones with Amazon logos fly here, banned raves take place, recipes for love potions and functioning democracies are offered. This is how tea drinking in Wonderland is pictured today.
For dessert, delicious foam sculptures are exhibited, through which Quelish recycles toys and plastic found from the streets.
